"Remo Salvadori"

Each sculptor is destined to have his own chosen material, and each material carries its own formal vocation within itself. (Henri Focillon, "La Vie des formes", 1934)
There are invisible and miraculous channels that transfer qualities and powers, benefits, positive or negative energy, from the upper heavens to the lower earth, depending on use and purpose. We are dazzled by both the Golden Sun and the Black Sun, the occult planet Saturn, that is lead, which neither light nor radiation can pass through. Mars is the hot, dry iron. Silver is the cold moon, that is also Proserpine or Diana; then there is liquid Mercury and Venus-copper, the closest to gold that mixed with arsenic turns white like silver. It is dug into the bowels of the earth to bring it into the forge; it is moist and cold—for others, moist and hot—perpetuating the same doubt about the nature of the planet. Venus-copper is emanation, femininity, corresponding to the sun-gold. Once cleaned and polished, copper becomes a mirror: the instrument par excellence of Venus. But when love and desire are too ego-focused, the reflected image can become a death trap, the abyss of narcissism. Then comes the pond, metallic Jupiter, moist and warm, airy, healing the melancholy, that tightness in the chest that darkens and weakens the heart. And that is why the pond is associated with the colour orange, as warm as the sexual urge.
