The work with lead
"His work with lead marked the passage to a new stage with respect to the deconstruction of the exchange and use value of things. 'A voice, a dream, a hallucination' (his words in our last conversation) drove him to seek the sanctity of nature even in its less showy aspects. For its astral value, therefore, metal presented itself to him as the most concrete trace of a reenchanted world. Working it meant intervening in the mode of being of substances in order to restore to the material the property of emitting colors and sounds"
(Davide Bondì, "Childhood and Form of Metals", in Remo Salvadori, ed. Antonella Soldaini [Milan: Skira, 2025], 57)
